Amristar bus trial next week

Published December 9, 2005

NEW DELHI, Dec 8: The trial run of the Amritsar-Lahore bus service will take place on Sunday by the Indian operator and on Tuesday by the Pakistani operator. The trial run had earlier been scheduled for last October but was postponed due to the earthquake, official spokesperson said here on Thursday during a media briefing.

The meeting to finalize the Amritsar-Nankana Sahib bus service will take place on Dec 20-21 in Islamabad, added the spokesperson.

India and Pakistan had agreed in September this year on starting Lahore-Amritsar bus service on a regular basis at the second round of two-day technical level talks on the operationalization of Amritsar-Lahore and Amritsar-Nankana Sahib bus services.

Pakistan’s side was led by Mohammad Abbas, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Communication, while the Indian delegation was headed by Dilip Sinha, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, at the talks held here. Both sides had agreed to hold another round of talks to finalize the arrangements for the Amristar-Nankana Sahib bus service.—APP
