KARACHI: Ibad orders facilities for voters: By-elections


KARACHI, Dec 8: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Thursday directed the concerned officials to provide maximum facilities to voters of those constituencies in the province where by-elections are being held on December 10, 2005.

The governor also ordered that all-out arrangements be made for Dec 10 by-polls in accordance with Election Commission’s code of conduct.

He was chairing a high-level meeting at Governor’s House to review arrangements made for by-elections in various constituencies of the province and SAF Football Championship-2005 and Pak-England ODI in Karachi and overall law and order situation in the province.

Sindh chief secretary Fazlur Rehman, DG Rangers Sindh Maj Gen Javed Zia, principal secretary Salim Khan, IGP Sindh Asad Jehangir, home secretary Brig Ghulam Mohammad Mohtaram, CCPO Karachi Niaz Siddiqui, DIGP operations Mushtaq Shah, DIG investigation Manzoor Mughal and other officials attended the meeting.

Dr Ishratul Ibad asked the concerned departments to take effective and co-ordinated measures for ensuring peaceful, fair and transparent conduct of the by-elections. About SAFF Championship being held in Karachi, he said it was the first event of its kind in the city and hoped that such events would also be held in future in a better environment.—PPI
