Baseball: Punjab advance to 2nd round

LAHORE, Dec 7: Punjab with eight points qualified for the second round of the 14th national baseball championship on Wednesday. Punjab having won all four matches of the first round, now join departmental teams Army, Wapda and Police in the second round which starts on Thursday.

The other department teams had direct entry in the second round.

In the last match of first round on Wednesday, NWFP beat Islamabad 22-20.

For NWFP, Mohammad Asif scored five runs while Majeed Ahmed, Khalid Hussain and Naseeb with three runs each were the other key scorers.

For the losers, Sajid Hussain, Naseer Ahmed and Mohammad Umar were the chief scorers with three runs each.

In the second match, NWFP, however, lost to Sindh 10-9. Shahid, Abdur Rahman and Arman scored two runs each for winners. For the losers, Imran and Sajid added two runs.

Second round fixture for Thursday: Wapda v Punjab; Army v Police.

Friday: Wapda v Police; Army v Punjab. Dec 11: Final.
