Pakistan to feature in Asian Sailing


KARACHI, Dec 7: Pakistan will feature in the Asian Sailing Championship scheduled to be held at Doha (Qatar) from March 16 to 25, Pakistan Sailing Federation (PSAF) announced on Thursday.

Pakistan will be contesting in almost all the classes including 470, Laser Standard, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Mistral, Optimist and Hobecat, secretary general, PSAF Syed Vaqar Hasan said.

“It will be very important event for Pakistan as we are trying to revive country’s sailing glory having gold medals in Mumbai, Seoul, Beijing Asian Games,” he said.

He said Asian championship will provide, national sailors good preparations for December 2006 Asian Games held at same venue.

Vaqar said PSAF have already got some boost in their financial position as Pakistan Sports Board have enhanced their grant and Pakistan Sports Trust have promised Rs.1.3 funds for the Asian Games preparation including buying of equipments, boats and for international exposure.

The trials to select a 20-member Pakistan squad for the championship will be conducted in late January or February.—APP
