Bhurgri-Anwer pair triumph
KARACHI, Dec 5: Candyland, once again, maintained their domination in the bridge circuit by completing a hat trick of victories when they won the weekly Swiss Movement Bridge at Aslam Bridge Hall with 115 victory points (VPs) on Sunday. Candyland, having its regular pairs of Hamid Mohiuddin-Ziaullah Baig, Khalid Mohiuddin, Mubashir Puri and Muhammed Ismail, completed three in a row feat.
The winners overcame Crescent 25-5, Mahmood IV 19-11 in the second round and Four Bidders 22-8. Abedies fell to their own aggression and lost 24-6.
In the last round Data Steel lost 24-2 and conceded 25-4 in the concluding match.
Strikers with S M Ozair, Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed, Zahur Kazmi and Mazhar Ali Khan also won all the five matches of the day, but with small margins. They finished second with 88 VPs.
Strikers defeated Data Steel 16-14, Five Foods 17-13, Aggressive 21-9, Alliance 17-13 and Abedies 17-13 VPs.
Abedies with Iqbal Abedi, Jawad Abedi, Nuri Pasha and Iqbal Hyder got the better of Attachers 20-10, then edged out Alliance 19-11, registered a sweeping victory over Mahmood IV 25-4, lost fourth round match to Candyland 6-24 and then again to Strikers 13-17, but by then they had collected 83 VPs to claim third berth.
In the Mitchel Movement, A K Bhurgri-Anwer Kizilbash reached the apex as they competed from north-south direction with an impressive score of 66.55 per cent.
Mazhar Ali Khan and M Azwerul Haq finished second far behind the leaders with 58.89 per cent followed by F A Naeem-Jawad Abedi 58.70 per cent.
From east-west direction Asghar Mehdi Naqvi-Hasan Sajjad accumulated 60.58 per cent to edge out Iqbal Abedi-Atiqur Rehman 59.48 for the top berth.
Afzal Shaikh-Salman Masud claimed third with a score of 56.91 per cent.—APP
