Punjab crowned champions

LAHORE, Dec 5: Seven runs in the last innings helped Punjab beat Sindh 13-12 in one of the best matches of the National baseball championship on Monday. Punjab played two matches on the second day and won both.

Sindh were leading 7-1 at the end of the second innings by scoring four runs in the first and three in the second. Punjab scored one run in the second innings.

Sindh maintain the lead till the fourth innings as no run was scored in the next two. They consolidated the lead 9-1 scoring two more runs in the fifth innings.

Punjab took over the game in the sixth innings scoring five runs against two make it 11-6.

In the final seventh innings, Punjab fully dominated scoring seven runs against only one by Sindh to win the match.

Ahsan Beg (3), Sumair Zawar (2), Usman (2), Hyder Abbas (2), Umair Bhatti (2), Waqas (1) and Muhammad Umair (1) scored for the winners, while Qambar Ali (3), Jawad Ali (2), Zulqarnain (2), Aamir Saleem (2), Jabbar (1), Azeemud Din (1) and Mubashar (1) contributed for the losers.

In the second match, Punjab had an easy sailing against Balochistan as they completed their rout 20-4.

Punjab’s Ahsan Beg (4), Zubair (3), Usman (3), Usman Malik (3), Hyder Abbas (2), Umair Bhatti (1), Nasir (1), Zubair (1), Waqas (1) and Sumair Zwar (1) scored.

Khalid Nazir, Zafar, Mumtaz and Majeed scored one run each for the losers.

The third match saw NWFP defeating Islamabad 20-10. Imran (4) and Abdur Rahman (3) were the main scorers for NWFP, while Rizwan Abbasi (3) and Abdur Rahman (2) scored for the losers.
