KARACHI, Dec 5: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Monday laid the foundation stone of Rs2.1 billion special package project for water, sewerage and drains construction and improvement in Korangi Industrial Area.

Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony, he said that the project would be completed in less than one year providing direct benefit to industries and area residents. He observed that Korangi Industrial Area, which yielded taxes of Rs250 million daily, was devoid of basic facilities of water and sewerage.

He said that the city government not only prepared the project details in just three weeks but also allocated funds for the same and work thereon started as from today which would be completed in less than one year where after a long pending problem of this area would stand resolved, benefiting over 3,200 industries.

Mustafa Kamal appreciated KWSB Managing Director and his officers for carrying out the work at a rapid pace.

He said that a committee would be set up for monitoring and ensuring quality of work. It would also include the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry representatives. He asked the industrialists to play the role of stake-holders in this project.

He said it was the desire of city government to provide basic facilities to people, industrialists and traders and solve their problems. In this regard, he added, provision of facilities of water and sewerage was its foremost priority. —APP
