Soldier dies in blast

WANA, Dec 4: One soldier was killed in a roadside explosion and security forces shot dead a suspected militant in Shakai valley of South Waziristan Agency on Sunday.

Officials said that a military convoy was on patrol in the valley when one of the vehicles hit a landmine at about 10am, causing the blast. soldier, who belonged to the Azad Kashmir Regiment, was killed.

The patrolling party opened fire, killing one suspect whose identity could not be ascertained.

Our Miramshah correspondent adds: Militants fired four rockets on a paramilitary post in the Mirali sub-division of North Waziristan Agency on Saturday night.

Sources said that one of the rockets hit a power transmission tower causing electricity breakdown in a large area.
