Asim claims Federal Cup singles crown

ISLAMABAD, Dec 4: Asim Shafik recovered from a set down to beat defending champion Aqeel Khan in the best of three final and land the men’s singles title of the Federal Cup tennis at Islamabad Club clay courts on Sunday.

Asim won 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in two hours and 10 minutes.

He showed his resolve despite losing the first set, as he overcame his higher-ranked opponent.

Aqeel’s best chance to wrap up the final came in the eighth game of the second set when he poised for a break but could not win the final point despite three deuces.—APP
