LAHORE, Dec 4: The Punjab government has amended the Local Government Ordinance 2001, deleting the method of the election of naib nazims of district governments and tehsil councils through secret ballot.
Governor Khalid Maqbool has signed the ordinance, official sources said on Sunday.
They said with the amendment two provisions relating to the election of naib nazims through secret ballot had been deleted.
“It means that they will now be elected through a show of hands. It will also help identify those who support or oppose whom,” they said.
The amendment has been made reportedly on the pattern set by the National Reconstruction Bureau. It has already been made by the NWFP and Balochistan.
