Workshop on patent system
HYDERABAD, Dec 4: Scholars, experts and scientists have stressed the need of introducing a patent system in the country. They said the system would help to promote scientific research and encourage researchers.
They were speaking on the
second day of a three-day international training workshop on the patent system, organized by the centre of excellence in analytical chemistry, University of Sindh, in a local hotel here on Saturday.
The session was presided over by Professor (Dr) Asma Ismail from Malaysia.
Dr Sarfaraz Niazi, who is working as a patent consultant in the US, underlined the importance of patents and scientific research.
Dr Niazi, who also provides consultancy to the Higher Education Commission on patents, said that the HEC would provide financial and legal help to the researchers for patenting their research products.
The second paper was read by the world intellectual property consultant in Malaysia, Mr Lee Yoke Chin, on ‘use of patent information for research and development’.
He spoke at length about patenting products and how they could be used in modifying chemical processes for product development.
