KARACHI, Dec 4: The National Workers Party-Karachi chapter has expressed concern over the government’s insistence to construct Kalabagh Dam at all cost.

The NWP, which met with its President Usman Baloch in the chair, discussed the political situation prevailing in the country besides reviewing the party’s reorganisation.

Adopting a resolution against construction of Kalabagh Dam, the meeting pointed out that there was no justification for the dam’s construction when three elected provincial assemblies and the technical committee had already opposed the dam. Insisting on the project was tantamount to insulting the elected institutions, he said.

In the resolution, the NWP has called upon the federal government to respect the wishes of people and abandon the dam project, and instead tap other venues with national consensus for increasing the country’s water reservoirs.
