Skipper unhappy

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Dec 2: Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq, who became the 14th batsman to reach 8,000 Test runs, was disappointed at missing out scoring a third successive century in the series against England.

“I’m disappointed for not scoring another century.

“But since we needed quick runs to have a sizeable lead and put England under pressure, I lost my wicket, which for me was not the first time.

“I had got outs in the nervous 90s on seven occasions,” he remarked.

Asked if he considered himself to be at his peak, Inzamam opined that he wished to improve his performance and serve Pakistan for another couple of years.

“I’m feeling great at the moment. I would to score a few more runs to my tally before the 2007 World Cup.”

The Pakistan captain was happy that his side were in a position to dominate England on the final day.

“Before the series a lot of people were not prepared to give us a chance of beating the Ashes-winning England side.

“But somehow we were always confident we could achieve the impossible because we had performed well this year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer said that he need some special deliveries from his bowlers on Saturday’s final day to win the third Test.

Woolmer said that the wicket was favouring batsmen and the bowlers had to work hard to get wickets.

He claimed that the decision of introducing Shoaib Malik as opener proved successful and he was quite satisfied.

“Shoaib and Salman had given three opening stand of more than 50 run in five innings.”
