APNS to meet Balochistan governor, CM

KARACHI, Dec 2: A high-powered committee of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) will meet the Balochistan governor and chief minister to apprise him about problems faced by newspapers in the province. A meeting of the APNS executive committee held in Islamabad was informed by members from Balochistan that government advertisements to genuine publications had been drastically curtailed and the largest chunk of advertisements was being doled out to dummy newspapers owned by government officials in connivance with some officials of the information department.

Inquilab Matri, vice-president of the APNS, said plots allotted in 1980 to the newspaper industry at the Civic Centre in Karachi were being grabbed by provincial government departments. The meeting urged the Sindh governor and chief minister to look into the matter and order immediate vacation of the plot.

Later, the committee discussed various issues at a meeting with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.—PPI
