KARACHI: Govt has okayed dam plan: PPP

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 2: Executive Committee of the PPP Sindh on Friday accused the provincial government of compromising on Sindh’s interests viz-a-viz Kalabagh Dam, and claimed that Arbab Rahim’s coalition had already given its consent for the construction of the controversial dam.

According to a press release issued by the Deputy Information Secretary of PPP Sindh, Waqar Mehdi, the committee, which met under the chairmanship of the party’s provincial chief, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, demanded that the projects like Kalabagh dam, Greater Thal Canal, etc., must not be undertaken as they were bound to harm the national unity.

It recalled various resolutions adopted by the Sindh Assembly against these projects, and alleged that the Sindh government’s surrender to the Centre’s plans in this regard tantamount to betrayal of Sindh and its people, and insult of its assembly.

The committee also demanded withdrawal of all cases against Ms Benazir Bhutto, pointing out that her recent acquittal in the PIA case was a victory of the oppressed people of Pakistan.
