KARACHI, Dec 2: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) — Sindh president, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, on Friday claimed that people were looking towards the PPP at this critical moment in the country’s history, as the present government was depriving them of employment and doing nothing to resolve their civic and economic problems.

Addressing a public meeting in the PIB Colony in connection with by-election in PS-117, from where PPP candidate, Pir Abdur Rasheed, is contesting, he said that history was witness to the fact that the PPP had initiated record number of development projects in the country, especially in Karachi during its last three tenures.

He said the credit for construction of Sharea Faisal, establishment of Pakistan Steel Mills, Port Qasim, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, nuclear power plant and the NED Engineering University all went to the PPP.

He said the party had also allotted Rs121 billion for the construction of flyovers, roads, schools, colleges, provision of employment, water, electricity and other civic services, he said, adding that that done for Karachi by the PPP had not be done by others.

He deplored that despite 58 years of independence, people were still not free to elect their genuine representatives and cast their votes, which was evident from the record-breaking rigging in the recent local bodies’ elections, especially in Karachi and interior Sindh.

Criticizing the government, he said it had done nothing for the people except enhancing their miseries by increasing prices of essential commodities, creating mass unemployment and giving rise to poverty. But, he claimed that the miseries of people would now soon be over.

Taj Haider, Pir Mazharul Haq, Pir Abdur Rasheed, Rahil Iqbal, Waqar Mehdi and others also spoke.—PPI
