‘Pakistan are in series-winning position’
LAHORE, Dec 1: Centurion Kamran Akmal is confident of Pakistan’s win in the three-Test match series against England. Kamran, who with Mohammad Yousuf put on 199 for their unbroken sixth-wicket partnership and placed Pakistan in an unassailable position in the third Test, said after the third day’s play: “By the grace of Allah we are in a position from where we can win the series.” Kamran was unbeaten with a career-best 115.
The wicket-keeper, however, emphasized that this knock was under different conditions as compared to his match-saving effort in Mohali, India earlier this year.
He said that Pakistan were in need of a big partnership to build the innings and he and Yousuf had done the job.
Kamran admitted that the pitch was playing a little bit slow as compared to the first two days but added it still had the pace for the bowlers, especially Stephen Harmison was hostile.
The wicket-keeper said that captain Inzamamul Haq was to resume his unfinished innings after Shoaib Akhtar’s departure but sent him to gain time to recover from an injury on his right forearm on Wednesday.
England coach Duncan Fletcher conceded that his team had lost the initiative and the tourists were in a difficult position.
However, he said that on the remaining two days they would try to fight back in the match but all depends how much lead they would concede.
Fletcher said that England’s bowlers worked hard but they could not get wickets and that was the disappointment.
