GUJRANWALA, Dec 1: An inquiry committee continued probing the use of substandard material in uplift projects and financial irregularities by Wasa here on Thursday. The inquiry team comprises Punjab Housing and Physical Planning deputy-secretary (technical) Muhammad Nadeem and GDA director-general Rana Mahboob Alam.

Accompanied by senior engineers and government functionaries, they visited Naushera Road, Ferozewala Road, Gill Road, Irfat Colony and other areas where people complained against the Wasa over defective sewer construction and also recorded their statements.

Complainants alleged that Rs140 million funds provided by the Punjab chief minister for the purpose were being wasted. Traders of Ferozewala Road complained that the road remained awash with sewerage water due to defective sewer lines.

The Punjab chief minister had formed the inquiry committee when PPP MNA Imranullah Chaudhry and PML MPA Ashraf Butt informed him in Lahore about the use of substandard material in uplift projects and financial irregularities by the Wasa.
