QUETTA, Dec 1: Police on Thursday demolished over four dozen kutcha houses ‘illegally constructed on state land’ in Gwadar, triggering protests. Two leaders of the protesters were arrested. According to reports reaching here, groups of people, after migrating from other areas of Makran over past three years, had occupied land in the airport area and built mud-houses.
The local administration of Gwadar issued notices to the people living in the kutchi abadi to vacate the land, saying criminals have started using the area as a hideout.
On Thursday, police cordoned off the area assisted by officials of the local administration and started demolishing.
The residents resisted the move and blocked the Airport Road by putting barricades. They also hurled stones at police. Police used baton-change and tear gas for dispersing the angry residents and arrested two persons who were leading the protestors.—Staff Reporter
