KARACHI, Dec 1: Unplanned digging of a commercial road in the Lyari Town has been causing nuisance to the commuters and the residents have complained that due to the closure of the road in question, the entire traffic load of this route had been shifted to the link roads situated in densely populated areas.
Sheedi Village Road being a link road connects Lea Market with other arteries of the town such as Tannery Road, Aath Chowk, Chawkiwara Road, Mir Mohammad Baloch Road, D.D Chaudhary Road, Fidh Husain Sheika Road and Haji Pir Mohammad Baloch.
This is totally a commercial route in the locality housing several restaurants, booking offices of upcountry coaches and buses, and travel agencies.
The road has been converted into a terminus by the upcountry transporters, who park their vehicles haphazardly in the middle of the road, thus blocking traffic flow.
Both the town administration and police have failed to check the illegal parking of these vehicles and the residents have always blamed the officials for an “underhand deal” with the transport mafia.
The road was closed for traffic a few weeks back for carrying out repair work. The entire road was dug up without any planning and no arrangement has been made so far for lifting of material which is a permanent source of dust pollution in the adjoining areas.
The road closure has also multiplied the pedestrians’ problems.
The residents say they are not opposed to any development activity, but they failed to understand why the entire road was demolished and the road work and lying of sewerage lines were taken simultaneously.
