QUETTA, Dec 1: German Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Gunter Mulack has stressed the need for maintaining peace and order in Balochistan to attract foreign investment. Speaking to the business community of the province during a dinner hosted by the Balochistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) here, the ambassador said foreign investors were reluctant to invest in the province because of disturbance.
He suggested that all disputes should be resolved through negotiations. “Dialogue is the only way to find out solution of all conflicting issues,” Dr Mulack remarked and added that there were opportunities of foreign investment in various sectors of Balochistan. He said the areas of investment in Balochistan include coal and marble mining, oil and gas exploration, livestock, agriculture, fisheries, dry fruit and tourism.
The German envoy informed the BCCI members that he would discuss possibilities of investment in education, health, mineral and other sectors in the province with the German authorities.
Dr Mulack said he wanted increased ties between the two countries for the promotion of trade and business. He said his country was already extending visa facilities to the business community of Balochistan and more visas would be extended on the recommendations of the BCCI.
He also assured that he would persuade German investors to also make investment in Balochistan. “Germany would take steps for improving health, education and communication sectors in Balochistan,” Dr Mulack added.
Earlier, former industry minister Sardar Mohammad Ali Jogezai informed the German envoy of the problems faced by Balochistan owing to long spell of drought. He suggested that the German government should help the provincial government in constructing dams and also take steps for restarting technical training centres funded by the German government.
BCCI President Haji Mohammad Sadiq Kakar identified the sectors in which German investors could invest in Balochistan.
