Snooker: Yousuf, Salman, Saleh, Sohail in last eight
KARACHI, Nov 30: Fancied Muhammad Yousuf, Saleh Muhammad, Salman Shaikh and Sohail Shahzad secured berths in the last eight round of the second phase of Karachi Club open snooker championship at Amir Bakhsh Billiards Hall on Wednesday.
Former world and Asian champion Muhammad Yousuf (Sindh) first beat Farhan Lakhani 4-0 in Pool ‘A’ with a break of 63 in the final frame and later in the afternoon Yousuf dropped a frame before overcoming Ahad Ali Khan which included a break of 50 in the first frame.
NWFP’s Saleh carved out two splendid breaks of 86 in the first, and 52 in the fourth while routing Dr Anil Bherwani in straight frames.
His second victim was Farhan Idrees, whom he beat 4-1 thanks to a break of 84 in the second frame.
Sohail Shahzad in his opening outing overpowered Ahad Ali Khan 4-2 and defeated Farhan Lakhani 4-0 with a break of 73.
Salman defeated Farhan Idrees 4-0 and Anil Bherwani by the same margin laced with a break of 59 in the first frame.
Eight qualifiers and top eight ranked player in Pakistan are taking part in the Rs53,000 championship.
They are drawn in four groups with top two making it to quarterfinal knockout stage.
