KARACHI, Nov 30: A woman died and two persons were wounded in separate road accidents in different parts of the city Wednesday. Police said the woman identified as Asma, wife of Jalal, was crossing the road near Numaish when a speeding vehicle knocked her down. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where she died during treatment. Police said the victim used to work as maidservant.
In another accident that occurred in the same area, a woman and her son were injured when a speeding minibus hit them at the Numaish traffic intersection.
Sughra Bibi, 45, and her son Tabish, 16, were reportedly crossing the busy thoroughfare when the minibus of route W-11 knocked them down.
SHOTDEAD: A young man was shot dead during a cellphone snatching attempt in Solider Bazar on Wednesday night.
Police said Irfan Younis, 35, was intercepted by two persons who demanded his cellphone. However, as he resisted them, the suspects pumped a bullet into him and fled on a motorcycle.
The wounded was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
However, the victim’s relatives and friends reached the hospital and roughed up the casualty medical officer of the emergency department, arguing that Irfan was still alive.
Police said the victim was resident of Tariq Road.
KILLED: In another incident of cellphone snatching, police shot dead a suspected bandit and arrested his accomplice in Nazimabad while the suspects were snatching a cellphone from a man near the Baqai Hospital on Wednesday night.
The SHO of Nazimabad, Mehmood, said an ASI in civil dress was talking on his cellphone near the Baqai Hospital when two suspects tried to snatch his cellphone. Two policemen on a motorcycle witnessed the incident and raised alarm, prompting a shootout during which one of the suspects identified as Nasir was shot dead on the spot while his accomplice, identified as Shahzad, was wounded.
