ISLAMABAD, Nov 29: The October-8 earthquake killed 43,399 people and injured 31,069 in Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Bagh, Rawlakot and Palandri districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The latest AJK government-published statistics about the damage caused by the quake reveal that out of the 1313 villages in the districts, 1,050 have been affected by the earthquake.
The number of houses succumbing to the tremors is mind-boggling. Some 59,908 pucca houses collapsed and 20,158 were damaged, displacing over three million people.
The quake played more havoc with kutcha houses, destroying 115,075 of them and damaging 49,527.
About 1,566 educational institutions were destroyed and 644 damaged, 168 buildings housing medical facilities were destroyed and 70 damaged.
A total of 341 government buildings were destroyed and 238 damaged. Similarly, 6,002 other structures came to the ground and 1,846 suffered cracks and other damage.
MUZAFFARABAD: The quake has affected the 583 villages in Muzaffarabad district where it killed 33,724 people and injured 21,374.
One hundred and three buildings housing medical facilities were destroyed. Apart from the two government buildings damaged, 38,562 pucca houses were destroyed and 6,790 damaged.
RAWLAKOT: The 122 villages have been affected, 10,25 people killed and 1,909 injured in Rawlakot district.
Sixteen medical facilities were razed to the ground and 19 damaged. The quake destroyed 125 educational institutions and damaged 275. Seventy-eight government buildings also came to the ground and 71 partially collapsed. Fifty-seven other buildings collapsed and 154 were damaged.
PALANDRI (Sudhnoti): There are 60 villages in this district of which 55 were affected. However, there were less causalities in these villages as only four people died and 16 were injured there.
Nineteen pucca houses collapsed and 294 were damaged. About 410 kutcha houses collapsed and 1,425 were damaged. Two medical facilities and 54 educational institutions were damaged and an educational institution collapsed.
BAGH: The quake has affected the 231 villages in Bagh district, killing 8,157 people and injuring 644 others. More than 17,450 pucca houses were destroyed and 5,048 damaged. A large number of kutcha houses - 30,214 - were destroyed as 13,178 received damage.
In the district, 49 medical facilities were destroyed and 40 damaged. Five hundred and eleven educational institutions were razed to the ground whereas 240 received damage. Besides, 189 other government buildings were destroyed and 76 damaged.
NEELUM: Of the 88 villages in district Neelum, 24 were affected. Some 447 people were killed and 1,013 injured. Fifty pucca houses were destroyed whereas 120 partially collapsed or were damaged.
About 3642 kutcha houses were destroyed and 7,035 damaged. Nine medical facilities were damaged with two other government buildings.
MIRPUR: Six people were killed and 11 injured in Mirpur district with no incidence of any collapse of houses or buildings there.
