Top players advance

ISLAMABAD, Nov 29: There were no upsets in the first round of the Federal Cup tennis with all the top players advancing easily at the Islamabad Club on Tuesday.

The tournament’s top seed Aqeel Khan dispatched Pervaiz Khan 6-2, 6-3 while Nomi Qamar defeated Jehanzeb Khan 7-5, 6-3.

Among the other winners were Hameedul Haq, Omer Babar and Jalil Khan, all scoring straight set victories.

Former Davis Cup player Hameed knocked out Azeem Khan 6-0, 6-3 and Omer beat Shahzad 6-4, 6-3. Jalil, younger brother of Aqeel, scored a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over Yasir Khan.
