GUJRANWALA, Nov 29: A labourer was killed in an explosion in a scrap godown in Samanabad here on Tuesday. Mubashar was sifting the scrap when the explosion took place. He was injured and taken to hospital where he died.
RECOVERED: On the orders of the district and sessions judge, police recovered a brick kiln worker from the outhouse of a kiln owner in Qila Dedar Singh and produced him before court.
Hamidan Bibi, the wife of Bashir, moved court and pleaded that kiln owner Arshad had kidnapped her husband and confined him in his outhouse.
KILLED: A maid was killed in an exchange of fire between the two rival groups in Mancher Chattha village, Alipur Chattha.
Reports said Sumaira Bibi was working in the house when Sohail Akram along with his accomplices came there and opened fire on his rival Afzal. Sumaira killed when Afzal returned the fire. Her body was shifted to Wazirabad THQ Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, a man was killed in aerial firing by some participants in a marriage in Talwandi Musa Khan, some 15km from here on Tuesday.
Irfan, a neighbour of the bride, was standing in the street when some participants in the marriage possession started aerial firing. A bullet hit him and he died on the sport.
Villagers became infuriated and attacked the marriage party with clubs. All participants, including the groom, escaped from the scene.
MASS WEDDING: As many as 73 couples contracted marriage during a mass wedding ceremony organized by Citizens Welfare Association here on Tuesday.
Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, who was the chief guest, could not attend the ceremony because of his official engagements. However, DCO Khalid Masood Chaudhry distributed gifts and dowry among brides.
Association President Haji Muhammad Anwer pointed out that as many as 300 couples had been married in five ceremonies.
Punjab Baitul Maal director Col Ahmed Nadeem Qadri, chamber of commerce and industry president Akhlaq Ahmad Butt, jail superintendent Shaukat Feroze and other senior government officials participated in the ceremony.
