Jail authorities accused of torturing inmates
SUKKUR, Nov 29: Prisoners of the central jail-I have alleged that they were subjected to inhuman torture during the search operation to find prisoners involved in the bomb blast destroying jail’s wall.
About 25 prisoners were brought to the Sindh High Court, Sukkur circuit bench, and the sessions court, amid tight security on Tuesday.
They were not allowed to talk to journalists on the occasion.
However, some newsmen managed to talk them.
They told them on the condition of anonymity that during the search operation they were subjected to inhuman torture for four consecutive days.
The prisoners showed wound marks on their bodies.
They said the jail officials took off their clothes and tortured them mercilessly. They alleged that hundreds of prisoners were still languishing in solitary confinement and were not being allowed to see their relatives.
The prisoners were produced before the court and they also narrated the same story before the court.
After that the court ordered the police to take prisoners to the Sukkur civil hospital for check-up.
The prisoners were taken to the hospital under tight security where duty doctors including Dr Yasin checked them and confirmed about the torture.
Zahid Shah, a prisoner of the central jail-I, who was shifted to a Karachi jail, was brought to the Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, for hearing.
He told the journalists that the prisoners were treated inhumanly as police denuded them and tortured them mercilessly due to which several prisoners were injured seriously.
