Holder Aqeel crushes Nomi in final

LAHORE, Nov 28: Defending champion Aqeel Khan crowned another title when he defeated second seed Nomi Qamar in the one-sided final of the National grass court tennis championship at the Bagh-i-Jinnah courts on Monday. Aqeel won with the score being 6-0, 6-2, 6-1.

Aqeel showed no mercy to Nomi and hit fine strokes from the baseline with excellent court coverage.

Aqeel started the match on a fast note as he did not drop even a single game to win the first set.

Aqeel did not allow Nomi to stage a comeback in the match, winning the second set quite easily and the third also, leaving the rival stunning.

Sara Mehboob won the U-17 title beating Sara Mansoor 6-2, 6-3. It was the fourth consecutive victory of Sara in under-17 event.

Sara, however, was beaten by Maryum Rahim in the ladies’ singles final on Sunday. Saadamul-Haq, the son of former Davis Cupper Inamul Haq also completed a hat trick by winning the boys U-13 title beating Muhammad Abid 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the final.

Earlier, Saadam had won the national clay court and Air Chief Martial tournaments in a row.

Men’s singles (final): Aqeel Khan bt Nomi Qamar 6-0, 6-2, 6-1.

Girls U-17 (final): Sara Mehboob bt Sara Mansoor 6-2, 6-3.

Boys U-13 (final): Saddamul Haq bt Muhammad Abid 6-3, 7-6 (4).
