Lara ‘bids farewell’ to Australia

ADELAIDE, Nov 28: West Indian batting superstar Brian Lara gave an indication on Monday that he has played his final Test match in Australia with a prolonged farewell wave of his bat to the crowd after his second innings at Adelaide Oval.

The 36-year-old Trinidad left-hander became Test cricket’s all-time leading run-scorer in this Test during his first innings 226 of the third Test.

Lara was out for 17 in the second innings in the first over after first-hour drinks.

He waved his bat to all parts of the ground as he neared the boundary fence, which was interpreted by commentators as signalling his last Test innings in Australia amid speculation over his playing future.—AFP
