Bodies at UC level for child rights urged

SWABI, Nov 28: Welfare bodies have called for the establishment of union council-based committees for protec-tion of child rights in the district. The need for such committees was stressed at a one-day seminar on “Education is the birth right of each child” organized here on Monday.

Tehsil Swabi nazim Hanif Gul Jadoon said that the labour department was responsible for promoting child labour.

He said tehsil government would introduce a bill in the council to discourage child labour in the union councils, hoping that its members would cooperate in this connection.

The district coordination of schools, Raz Mohammad, said if the children got proper education the poverty problem would eradicated from our society and without imparting of education it might be very difficult to resolve problems of our society.

Labour leader Noor Mohammad Jadoon said those nations, who educated their youngsters, achieved prosperity and economic stability and those who ignored the young souls had pushed themselves to backwardness.

Executive director of Citizen Community Board Shmasur Rehman said he would play due role in educating people importance of the children, saying education and awareness were keys to discouraging child labour.

Mohammad Aqil, district chairman of human rights, said that a number of students had been deprived of the basic education in our country and whenever such youngsters grew they would become burden over the society, sometimes involving in various illegal activities.
