PESHAWAR, Nov 28: NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman has said that electricity in Fata areas will be provided only after installation of meters and payment of dues, adding, the government is ready to provide electricity to every consumer after these conditions are met.
He was talking to a jirga of FR Peshawar, which called on him at the Governor’s House here on Monday.
MNA Dr Nasim Afridi headed the jirga which apprised the governor of the development needs of the respective areas. They particularly asked for more education and health facilities in the area, said a handout issued here on Monday.
The governor said the policy of the government about providing electricity was quite clear. However, the situation of continuous power shut-down and low- voltage could be sorted out with Pesco and Tesco authorities.
Regarding installation of electricity meters in the Fata, the governor noted with satisfaction that in certain parts of agencies like Kurram, Bajaur and even Jamrud and Landi Kotal, the situation had improved, adding that the tribesmen should realize that the government was no more in a position to extend this widely consumed utility without payment or on subsidised rates.
However, he said, a workable formula for flat rate could be worked out in consultation with the stakeholders.
About health and education facilities, he said both sectors were on government’s priority, saying that the primary health care network must be expanded to have at least a dispensary at the smallest village level.
The government, he said, had already equipped the agency and tehsil headquarters hospitals with all the latest medical facilities, where the shortage of specialist doctors and other relevant needs were being addressed.
Regarding the healthcare facilities in the FR Peshawar, he said that five dispensaries were already functional whereas four more would be added during the current financial year.
About upgradation of a BHU to the status of hospital, the governor assured the jirga that feasibility would be studied. Similarly, he also assured the elders that possibility of upgradation of a boys and girls’ higher secondary school would also be explored.
On the demand about telephone facilities, he directed the officials to contact the PTCL authorities.
The governor urged the tribal elders and maliks to play their traditional role in maintaining peace in their respective areas and purge the anti-social and criminal elements.
The tribal elders assured the governor that their areas were peaceful.
However they would extend full cooperation to the administration in this regard.
