HYDERABAD, Nov 28: The first video conference among vice chancellors of various universities and the higher education commission was held here on Monday under a new project, ‘online lecturing and net-meeting’ initiated by the HEC. The conference linked five locations, the HEC in Islamabad, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Jamshoro, University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore, University of Peshawar and HEJ Institute of Chemistry in Karachi. The new system would provide interactive and online lecturing services to all public sector universities.

A large number of professors, scholars and researchers from Mehran, Sindh and Isra universities attended the video conference.

Those who took part in the conference were LUMHS Vice-Chancellor Professor Jan Mohammad Memon, HEC executive director Sohail Naqvi, Hazara University Vice-Chancellor Dawood Awan and Islamabad Rector Comsat Dr Junaid Zaidi.

While expressing comments on the new system, Professor Memon said that the system was necessary for medical education to have up to date information and on-line lecturing services.

He thanked the HEC for including LUMHS in the first phase of the project.

The chancellor and vice-chancellor of Isra, Dr Abdul Qadir Qazi and Dr Asadullah Qazi, also participated in the conference and appreciated the efforts of the HEC for improvement of the higher education.—Bureau
