KARACHI: ‘LB system meant to solve problems’

KARACHI, Nov 28: The Federal Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Justice (Retd) Abdul Razak Thaheem said on Monday that the local body system was purely a provincial subject and that there was no interference in it by the centre.

At the inaugural session of a two-day training workshop attended by some 100 district, tehsil/town nazims from Sindh, the Punjab, the NWFP and Balochistan at the Municipal Training Institute, the minister said the system was aimed at redressing public problems at the grassroots level.

He spoke on the concept of devolution, problems faced by the local governments and challenges ahead.

Justice Thaheem said the local government system could further be improved if the problems and lacunas experienced during the last four years could be kept in view.—PPI
