Teachers warn of strike
FAISALABAD, Nov 27: Punjab Government Schools Senior Staff Association has threatened to launch a province-wide protest movement if the government fails to accept teachers’ demands.
This was stated by association president Hafiz Abdul Nasir while speaking at a meeting held here on Sunday.
He alleged that the educational system of the country was being changed on monthly basis and these experiments had caused irreparable loss to students.
He said all the successive governments and the present rulers had formulated education policy without taking teachers into confidence or inviting suggestions from them.
Mr Nasir criticized the provincial government’s step to convert school education system into district cadres and termed it an anti-education policy of the bureaucrats.
He flayed the issuance of show-cause notices and threats of transfers to heads of educational institutions where matriculation results were not up to the mark. He said frequent changes in the education policy resulted in unsatisfactory performance.
He urged the government to withdraw the district cadre system and show-cause notices issued to heads of educational institutions. He opposed the proposed plan of starting academic year from September. Practical examinations for science subjects should not be done away with, he said.
