TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 27: City police registered on Sunday a case, after four months delay, against a Jamaat-i-Islami leader and former UC 54 councillor and his 30 accomplices for allegedly attacking the house of tehsil municipal officer.
According to police, the accused, Sanaullah Mufti, along with 30 other people, was protesting against water shortage on July 25. The protesters allegedly forced their entry into the house of TMO Saleem Khan and damaged his official jeep (TSA 313), besides torturing TMA staff. The case has been registered under sections 452, 427, 186, 148 and 149 PPC, but no arrests have so far been made.
Meanwhile, JI district chief Dr Zahid Sattar, UC 54 Nazim Mian Tahir Sattar, Naib-Nazim Toqeer Abdullah Bhatti and UC 55 Nazim Dr Maqbool Ahmad, have protested against registration of what they called a ‘fake’ case against JI leaders and citizens.
Speaking at a press conference, they alleged that tehsil Nazim Mian Javed Iqbal was victimizing JI leadership and his other political opponents, and he had forced the TMO to get register the case.
KILLED: A youth allegedly killed a farmer and injured his brother seriously over a minor dispute at Chak 180-GB near Gojra.
The deceased, Nisar, and his brother Ghaffar had accused Zahid of stealing cotton phutti from their farmland.
The accused opened fire at the two brothers at their farmland, inuring them critically. They were admitted to Gojra Tehsil Headquarter Hospital where Nisar died, while Ghaffar was said to be in a critical condition.
