KARACHI, Nov 27: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has constituted an eight-member committee of senior doctors and city government official to probe into matter of hemorrhagic virral diseases.
According to a press release of the city government issued on Sunday, City Nazim Mustafa Kamal after his return from London summoned a high-level meeting in his office and expressed concern over the news of spread of dangerous virus.
He said that the city government should take all preventive steps and inform the citizens about the real situation. He said that a complete survey in this regard was needed to assess the real situation and take preventive steps in its light. He asked the committee to start its work at once.
The committee, headed by DCO Fazalur Rehman, would submit its report to the city nazim as soon as possible. EDO Health, medial superintendents of Abbassi Shaheed Hospital, Sobhraj Hospital and Rafiqui Shaheed Hospital, DO Primary Healthcare, DO Malaria Control Programme, and DO Social Welfare are the committee members.
The committee would set up 18 teams of experts and experienced health workers, which will work at town-level in the supervision of respective Town Health Officer. These teams would conduct surveys and gather facts about the virus.
It would ensure advance arrangements in all city government hospitals for the treatment of patients suffering from the virus. It would also take extraordinary precautionary measures in the hospitals, where such patients were under treatment.
It would suggest preventive measures on town level so that further spread of the disease could be avoided. To keep the public aware of the situation, the committee would launch advertisement drive through print and electronic media.
To initiate the work at once, Fazalur Rehman has summoned the meeting of the committee on Monday. All Town Health Officers would also attend the meeting during which special teams would be constituted to initiate survey work in their respective towns. —PPI
