DADU: Women councillors seek funds for neglected areas

DADU, Nov 27: Women councillors have demanded that 33 per cent share of the budget should be allocated for social and development schemes in neglected areas.
They announced to launch a campaign to make 350 closed primary schools for boys and girls in the district functional.
At a meeting of women councillors, nazims, social workers and NGO representatives held here on Sunday, a “Women Councillors Ittehad” was formed. Aurat Foundation representative Hina Siddiqui presided over the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, People’s Party Parliamentarians general secretary Ms Almas Panhwar proposed that the old building of district jail should be made a shelter home for victimized women.
District council member Imamzadi Shaikh complained that officials of the education department were not paying attention to primary education.
She regretted that 350 primary schools were lying closed in remote areas of the district for many years and many school buildings were being used by influential people as Autaqs.
Taluka council member Soni Solangi alleged that billions of rupees had been provided to the education department for improving literacy but the funds had been embezzled.
Social worker Farzana Bhatti said specialist doctors had not been posted in the Dadu Civil Hospital. She demanded appointment of a gynaecologist in the hospital.
