ECB chief to discuss Karachi ODI

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 26: England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chief David Morgan arrives on Sunday to discuss the issue of whether or not hold the third one-dayer at Karachi between Pakistan and England and also to witness the third Test.

Shaharyar M. Khan, the PCB chairman, said on Saturday that he would try to allay his counterpart’s concerns about security of the England cricketers in Karachi.

England, who had rejected Karachi as a Test venue and confined it to only a one-day match, due to security reasons, are again reluctant to play the third ODI after a bomb blast near the hotel where the team would stay next month.

The PCB chief, who presided over a meeting of the ad hoc committee on Saturday, said the committee had warned Shahid Afridi for his pitch scuffing act during the second Test.

He said that the committee was of the view that since the ICC had already penalized Afridi, it was unfair to punish the all-rounder further but a warning was necessary.

He said that the committee could not take any decision over formation of a new selection committee and any decision in this regard would be taken at the end of the ongoing series against England.

Surprisingly, the ad hoc committee could not approve the new selection committee, despite the fact a decision on the issue had been taken two months ago.

However, the delay in this regard has given support to a wide range of rumours that big changes are in the offing in the PCB after the England series.

The chairman added that there was no need to appoint any manager or assistant coach for the Pakistan team during the home series.

He further said that all-rounder Shoaib Malik will travel to Australia before the one-day series against England to undergo biomechanic tests on his bowling action.
