Asad, Maliha crowned champions

KARACHI, Nov 26: Karachi’s upcoming Asad Omer and Maliha Khurshid clinched boys and girls singles titles in the 12th National table tennis championship at the Barkat Bhai hall, Hyderabad, on Saturday, according to information available here.

Asad dropped the opening set before turning the table on his opponent Owais Hasan of Railways in five games. He was home 7-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8 and 11-7.

Maliha overcame Punjab’s Arifa Rani 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-10 and 11-7.

Sindh finished with four titles in the competition. Earlier, they had bagged both the team events.

Boys’ singles semifinals:

Asad Omer (Sindh) bt Shozaib (Pun) 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-5

Owais Hasan (Rlys) bt Salman Ahmed ((Pun) 10-12, 11-5, 5-11, 9-11, 11-2, 10-12, 11-9

Boys singles final:

Asad Omer (Sindh) bt Owais Hasan (Rlys) 7-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8, 11-7

Girls singles final:

Maliha Khurshid (Sindh) bt Arifa Rani (Pun) 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-10, 11-7.
