Rubab smashes two marks

KARACHI, Nov 26: Mercurial international Rubab Raza (Army) set two new marks and Kiran Khan one, on the opening day of the 8th National junior age group swimming championship at Karachi Gymkhana pool on Saturday.

Rubab set the new record in 200 meter individual medley clocking 2 minutes 42.14 seconds. She registered another record in 50 meter butterfly covering the distance in 32.80 seconds.

Ace woman swimmer Kiran (Wapda) established the new record in 50 meter backstroke in 35.34 seconds beating 37.33 seconds record set by Rema Qureshi in 2003.

Both Kiran and Rubab stole the limelight on the first day capturing five individual gold medals in various events of the championship. Ayza Tareen (Sindh) grabbed three gold medals.

Punjab, Islamabad, Army, Wapda, Navy, and hosts Sindh are participating in under-10, 12, 14, 16 events.

50m backstroke (Group-1): 1. Mahnoor Maqsood 45.54 sec, 2. Alina Zuberi 47.49 sec, 3. Hoor Asrar Javaid 55.55 sec.

200m individual medley (Group-II): 1. Ayza Tareen 3 min.15.94 sec, 2. Aelia Mehdi 3 min 25.77 sec, 3. Azalfa Shafi 3 min 26.09 sec.

200m backstroke (Group-III): 1. Rubab Raza 2 min 42.14 sec, 2. Ghulam Sakina 3 min 03.29 sec, 3. Anum Jung 3 min 26.09 sec.

100m butterfly (Group-IV): 1. Kiran Khan 1 min 19.72 sec, 2. Rida Sabahat 1 min 31.17 sec, 3. Anum Jung 1 min 37.30 sec.

400m freestyle (Group-IV): 1. Kiran Khan 5 min 26.82 sec, 2. Aqsa Tariq 5 min 58.56 sec, 3. Rida Sabahat 6 min 02.45 sec.

50m freestyle (Group-I): 1. Rida Mitha 38.17 sec, 2. Alina Zuberi 38.84 sec, 3. Rubab Siddique 41.26 sec.

100m freestyle (Group-I): 1. Ayza Tareen 1 min 18.23 sec, 2. Zohra Wahab 1 min 22.94 sec, 3. Azalfa Shafi 1 min 24.21 sec.

200m freestyle (Group-II): 1. Ruba Raza 2 min 31.80 sec, 2. Ghulam Sakina 2 min 40.12 sec, 3. Rida Sabahat 2 min 44.42 sec.
