Middlesbrough, Marseille in knockout stages


PARIS, Nov 25: English Premiership side Middlesbrough, as well as French pair Marseille and Strasbourg, all booked their places in the UEFA Cup knockout round on Thursday.

Middlesbrough made certain of their place after a battling 0-0 draw against AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands, Marseille defeated another Dutch side Heerenveen 1-0 while Strasbourg drew 1-1 with Roma in Italy.

Steve McClaren’s Middlesbrough were in debt to goalkeeper Brad Jones who pulled off fine saves from Kenneth Perez, Shota Arvaladze and Danny Koevermans in their Group D clash.
