KARACHI, Nov 25: Hosts Sindh added another title when they chalked up a magnificent 3-1 victory over Punjab in the boys’ team event final of the 12th National junior table tennis championship at the Barkat Bhai hall, Hyderabad, on Friday.
Karachi’s Asad Omer, captain of Sindh, guided his team to victory by winning both his singles.
Sindh had already pocketed girls’ team event title the other day.
Railways combination of Omair Hasan-Salman annexed the boys doubles title disposing of Punjab’s Abdul Rahim-Shozaib 11-7, 11-8, 11-13 and 11-5 while the girls doubles title went to the Punjab’s duo of Sadia-Arifa who accounted for Sindh’s Bushra Ahzaz-Ayesha Jalil 11-8, 6-11, 11-7, 5-11 and 11-7.
Maliha Khurshid (Sindh) and Arifa (Punjab) propelled into the girls’ singles final. Maliha had the better of Sadia (Pun) 11-8, 11-9, 6-11, 11-8 and 11-7 while Arifa was stretched to limits by Sindh’s Ayesha Jalil before emerging 4-3 victorious. Final scores being: 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 7-11, 12-10, 6-11 and 13-11.
The boys’ singles final has reached the last four stage and those who have advanced were Asad Omer (Sindh), Owais Hasan (Rlys), Salman and Shozaib (both from Punjab).
The championship concludes on Saturday.
