KARACHI: Strike at college

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 25: Faculty members of S.M. Arts and Commerce College would not perform academic duties on Saturday to express solidarity with their colleague, who was reportedly subjected to torture outside the college by unknown persons on Friday.

Sources in the college said that the college remained peaceful on Friday morning. However, a teacher of Urdu, Afzal Bukhari, was roughed up by some persons as he was going on his motorcycle after college hours in the vicinity of Jama Cloth Market.

It was learnt that teachers had also submitted an application pertaining to the incident to the police.

When contacted, the college principal Prof Jalaluddin Chowhan said that the teacher talked to him about the matter in the evening and maintained that he could identify the culprits if presented before him.

The principal also clarified that no untoward incident involving student activists took place within the college during teaching hours on Friday.

In the meantime, the faculty members of the two-shift college decided to put off teaching classes on Saturday to protest against the incident.
