KARACHI: Encroachments around hospitals removed

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 24: The municipal administration of the Saddar Town on Thursday launched its anti-encroachment campaign in areas surrounding the Civil Hospital and the SIUT by removing illegal structures from the road and footpaths.

Parts of the structures built by the Eidhgah Police were also removed during the drive which will be continued for some days.

Town Nazim Mohammad Dilawar said, “we will give the area a new look and it will be a model which will be applied to other areas.”

The nazim said that a multi-dimensional plan for the removal of encroachments in Saddar area was also under consideration which would be implemented after seeking suggestions from the city government.

He was of the view that shopping plazas with parking facility should be built in the area which would ease traffic congestion in the locality to some extent.

Mr Dilawar added that since the city government was responsible for land management, we would definitely seek the advice of the city nazim on the issue.

He said the town administration would accord top priority to sanitation and public health, adding that “we have decided to involve the Union Councils in maintaining sanitary conditions.”

The nazim said that every health inspector in his UC would be responsible for the sanitation work and all the UCs would monitor the attendance of sanitary workers who would be paid salaries after getting clearance slip from the respective UCs.

He admitted that the sanitary condition in the town was not up to the mark, but he said transportation of garbage from the city to a Hub site was a great hindrance which needed to be given due attention as according to the nazim is a far-away site.
