KARACHI: All set for SIUT moot on transplantation


KARACHI, Nov 24: The 9th Congress of the Asian Society of Transplantation (CAST) will be inaugurated on Nov 29. The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SUIT) will host the meeting.

Renowned figures in organ transplantation, immunology, nephrology and affiliated subjects to this life saving technology will participate as keynote speakers.

On the occasion, 25 plenary talks, 88 symposia lectures, 84 presentations in the scientific sessions, 75 posters, panel discussions and debates are being scheduled. Speakers from 27 countries will bring with them a vast pool of knowledge and disseminate it to the audience.

Topics include kidney, liver, heart and pancreatic transplantation with the possible complications and immunosuppression, graft rejection, Xenotransplantation and many more. It is anticipated that over a thousand delegates will attend the CAST.

Following the CAST will be the 5th International Symposium on Urology, Nephrology and Transplantation of the SIUT, which will again have very attractive talks by renowned speakers.

Topics ranging from stones in the urinary tract to cancers, prostate disorders and a variety of others will be discussed during the moot.

A large number of delegates have registered for this informative meeting as well.

The CAST will be preceded by an important WHO meeting, regional consultation on cell and organ transplantation, from Nov 26 to 28.

Experts belonging to 12 countries of the eastern Mediterranean Region will take part in the moot, during which discussions will focus on the fifty seventh World Health Assembly’s Resolutions. This includes ethics in transplantation, public health, and pharmaceutical concerns.

A workshop on Immunobiology will also precede the Cast and will be facilitated by experts from Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and the USA.

SECURITY MEASURES: Meanwhile, security measures during CAST and the SIUT’s symposium in question came under review at a meeting held under the chairmanship of IGP Sindh Asad Jehangir Khan here on Thursday.

The meeting was informed that the workshops, lectures etc of the conference and symposium would begin from Nov 26.

The CAST, being held under the aegis of the SIUT, will be held from Nov 29 to Dec 2 while the 5th symposium will remain in session from Dec 3 to 4 at the Dewan Farooq Medical Centre.

The IGP directed that extraordinary steps be taken for the security of the participants and foreign delegations during the moots in question.

He said alert cops should be deployed at conspicuous spots along with an effective mobile and motorcycle patrolling besides close coordination between special branch and the town police.

The CCPO Karachi, Niaz Ahmed Siddiqi, informed the meeting that a comprehensive security plan had been chalked out which envisaged the deployment of additional force along routes and places of stay of the delegates to the conference/symposium and at the Dewan Farooq Medical Centre.

He said besides the conference/symposium, the workshops and lecture sessions starting from Nov 26 would also be provided appropriate security cover.—PPI/APP
