LAHORE, Nov 23: Dacoits on Wednesday looted Rs3 million from a bank on the Jail Road in Shadman. Manager Rana Sabqatullah told police that the crime had been committed with the help of a security guard who joined the bank some 20 days ago.
He said guard Baqir Shah let four robbers in the bank before the arrival of staff. He said the miscreants started holding staff members at gunpoint as they entered the bank and tied them up. They locked them in a room, opened lockers and collected Rs2.7 million. They also snatched five cell phones from the staff. They got away with the car of staffer Ehtesham.
During Eid holidays, lockers were broken and cash in millions was taken away from a bank on Lytton Road.
In another strike, dacoits took away cash, jewellery and valuables worth Rs2 million from the house of contractor Arif Saddiq in Block-P of Faisal Town.
The contractor told police he and his brother lived in two portions of the house. He said six gunmen entered the house and locked the inmates in a room. The intruders got away with the loot.
Four robbers burst into the house of Ahmad Khan in Kahna and made off with cash, gold ornaments and valuables worth Rs600,000.
Two armed men held up Ms Shamim at Ramgarh, Sanda, and snatched her purse and a cell phone. Two cell phones were snatched in Model Town and Allama Iqbal Town.
Two armed men in a rickshaw held hostage Qadir at Lakshmi Chowk and snatched Rs5,000 and a cell phone.
Two cars and as many motorcycles were stolen from other parts of the city.
ARRESTED: Police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested three robbers.
The police said the arrested men were involved in dacoity murders, rape, kidnapping for ransom and police encounters. Ring leader was identified as Aslam and accomplices as Yasin and Barkat.
The accused confessed to 120 crimes against property, including four rapes during house robberies.
MURDER: Two people were murdered in separate incidents in the city on Wednesday.
Police said Ehsan Alvi of Burki had contracted a second marriage some months ago. His father Naeem Alvi was opposed to the marriage and transferred land in his grandson Farhan’s name. Naeem alleged that his son Ehsan hit his grandson Farhan with a tractor in a bid to kill him. Farhan and his uncle Asghar suffered injuries who were taken to hospital. Asghar died while the grandson was stated to be in critical condition.
The police claimed to have arrested the accused.
Saeed, 35, was found dead close to his car in Township. He had been shot, the police said and added no clue to the murder was found.
