SWABI, Nov 23: Union council nazims on Wednesday demanded an inquiry against the contractor and officers concerned who, they said, were responsible for the collapse of a bridge on Swabi-Topi road. The nazims of the union council Kotha, UC Maini, Topi east and Topi west said that the bridge was opened to traffic a fortnight ago but it collapsed two day back.

They said that the contractor and officials of the communication and works department and frontier highway authority were responsible for the substandard construction and should be taken to task.

They said that they had also dispatched letters the district nazim, officials of the FHA and NWFP anti-corruption establishment director for initiating a probe into the bridge collapse incident.

BEATEN: A person riding a bicycle was hit by a truck near Sultanabad bus stop in Baja area and died on the spot.

The incident infuriated the people of the area and they started beating the truck driver. He was admitted to a hospital with multiple wounds.
