Afghan govt agrees to open Kunar road, says MNA

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Nov 23: MNA Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali has said that the Afghan government has agreed to open the Kunar-Nawa Pass road for during the season of intense snowfall. Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr Chitrali said: “We are in touch with the Afghan government, which has agreed to allow the people of Chitral to use the Nawa Pass-Kunar road during the snowfall season.”

Mr Chitrali said that they were thankful to the Afghan government to allow the use of the road by the people of Chitral, but demanded that it should provide security to the people using the facility.

He denied having opposed the opening of the Kunar road in the past, and said that he had only demanded security for the road users.

The MNA said that the work on Lowari tunnel project was in progress and its completion would benefit the people, who more often remained cut off from the rest of the country.

He said that they would not allow NGOs to spread obscenity in Chitral district.

Former Chitral district nazim Shahzada Mohyuddin told this correspondent on phone that the government had reached an agreement with the Afghan government during the tenure of late prime minister Mohammad Khan Junejo, according to which the people of Chitral could use Kunar road during snowfall.

He alleged that some people were trying to get credit for the opening of the road.
