KARACHI, Nov 23: Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Altaf Hussain has urged the federal government to release forthwith funds for the development of Karachi and the interior of Sindh so that the newly elected local government institutions could start their work without delay.
According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, he made the demand during meeting in London with Karachi Nazim Mustafa Kamal and naib nazim designate Nasreen Jalil. Rabita committee convenor Dr Imran Farooq, senior deputy convenor Tariq Javed and other members of the committee were also present.
Mr Hussain urged the city nazim and naib nazim to work dedicatedly for the uplift of the residents of their city. He demanded Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to release maximum funds on urgent basis for the development and uplift of Sindh areas, especially Karachi. He also directed the nazims elected on MQM tickets in various towns of Karachi to solve public problems without further loss of time. Already the people have suffered enough and needed proper attention, he added.
RELIEF WORK: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) used Pak Army helicopters to reach Alai, one of the worst affected areas in the remotest part of the NWFP, on Wednesday and started relief work there, said a press release issued here.
MQM Coordination Committee member Wasim Aftab, MNA Kunwar Khalid Yunus and a medical mission formed the contingent.
Former MNA and nazim Biyari union council of Alai, welcoming the MQM team, thanked the party leader Altaf Hussain for their services to people of the quake-hit areas including Alai.
While 125 families were given relief material, medical camp set up by the party at Doraha Girls College treated 645 patients. Another 250 persons were extended medical facilities.—PPI
