GILGIT, Nov 22: Three women and a boy, belonging to the same family, drowned in River Gilgit near Thinghee, 20km west of Gilgit, on Monday, police sources said.

They said that two daughters, daughter-in-law and niece of Shaheen, resident of Thinghee, were crossing the river through a makeshift footbridge after collecting firewood. They fell into the river after the bridge collapsed.

Police said that they had recovered the body of a woman while two women and the boy were still missing.

The police came to know about the incident after 24 hours even though it took place in the jurisdiction of the City police.
